About Commack and Fetpak

Since Fetpak is located in Commack, Long Island, NY we though you would be interested in learning about the place your packages are shipped from.

Comac, (sometimes spelled Commack, and formerly called Winne-Commack) is a pleasant crossroads village, situated in the eastern part of the town of Huntington on the Middle Country Road, or Smithtown Turnpike, and partly within the bounds of Smithtown. It is an ancient settlement, and is located in the midst of a rich agricultural district. The surface is level, or slightly rolling, and the soil heavy, and nearly every acre improved and under a high state of cultivation. The village contains 250 inhabitants, 2 churches, 2 schools, 2 stores, 2 hotels, a post office, and the celebrated horse training establishment of Carll Burr.  1874 by Richard Bayles

Did you really think that was Commack today?

Today Commack is known for Bob Costas and Rosie O’Donnell (ouch).  But is that all we got?  Okay, we are also known for the famous or infamous Commack Motor Inn.  It’s well known across the region.  Let’s just say they have a drive up window.

Commack Motor Inn with historic landmark post. Photo taken from Route 25.

The photo with the historic events post with the Commack Motor Inn behind just doesn’t do the historic post justice.  Those two things in the same photo are just all wrong.

Moving on, Commack is noted for….aaaaa, we’re thinking.  Actually we are noted for the Vanderbilt Motor Parkway, the first roadway designated for automobile use only.  The roadway opened in 1908 and was taken over by New York State in 1938 for back taxes.  Poor Vanderbilt’s, it’s tough being so poor.

Vanderbilt Motor Parkway in Commack actually still exists today, in fact it is a cross street to Austin Blvd the block Fetpak is located on.  Wow we are almost famous.

Other things Commack is well known for besides being in suburbia is being in the Hauppauge Industrial Park,

Mayfair Shopping Center...yes you are in suburbia.

Mayfair Shopping Center…yes you are in suburbia.

which Fetpak is located in.  It’s the second largest Industrial Park in the USA. Anyone know what the first largest is?  Hey we are trying to get some feedback here.  How about a $10 discount on your next Fetpak order to the first person who guesses correctly?  Now we’re talking, right?

Commack Road.

Commack Road, don’t we look so country? Not. Did we fool ya?

So now you know about Commack, isn’t it a great place to be, especially because when passing through you can stop in at Fetpak and browse our huge showroom loaded with Closeouts and samples of every item we stock.  Okay you caught us promoting Fetpak’s great deals.  Sorry about that.  🙂

Does anyone have any photos of the old Mayfair shopping center? It would be from the 1960:s to the 1970’s.

Does anyone know the name of the drugstore that was in Mayfair shopping center in the 70s and early 80s? It’s a local place. Not a major name. My family and I are wracking our brains trying to remember.

Great information about Commack. A church that existed nearly 100 years before Richard Bayles wrote about Commack. Thank you for sharing that.

Then there’s Commack Methodist Church , Townline Rd, just south of Jericho. Tpke
The original church, now called our Chapel was built in 1789, has been in continuous use. The larger
church, Commack United Methodist Church , was built in 1969 to accommodate the growing congregation.the cemetery located behind the Chapel is the resting place of Revolutionary and Civil War veterans. Cemetery has been closed to additional burials since 1958.

Thanks Cliff, nice to hear from someone who has lots of memories in Commack. Hey New Orleans has to be nice in the winter right? 🙂

Light and lively description of the town where I learned how to snap my gum and whistle using my index finger and thumb! I graduated from Commack High in 1967 when there was only one high school. Now I live in sultry New Orleans. Miss your place and the life long memories I hold onto from my Commack days….
